Live weight VS gutted weight
So I’ve been thinking lately I’m going to start weighing all my deer. I’ve only weighed a couple in all my years and would like to more out of curiosity than anything else. I’ve shot some whoppers over the years and wished I would have known what they weighed. I have no intentions of bringing the buck out to he weighed with guts in so it would be a gutted weight. I recently read an article for a live weight calculation you would multiply gutted weight X 1.26. I know there’s other ways like measuring chest which I know I won’t do so just wondering if that calculation would be in the ballpark or does anyone else know a better calculation???

That’s about all I’ve been able to find as well. I haven’t tested it out, but it seems like that’s as close as you can get. Think I actually read 1.25 but that’s close enough.

I think that's about right. I looked alot of this up a few years back. I think I'm remembering correctly.
Just add 25% of the dressed weight, to the dressed weight. So a buck that weighs 200 lbs dressed. Was about 250 live.

However I’d love to test the accuracy on a couple to see just how close..... it would depend on the severity of the drag if I’d be willing to do it..... if I do il. Update

Would be easier to bring a rope and scale to him... IF you can get him off the ground yourself.

I always weigh what goes in the freezer but rarely weigh on the hoof. Old timers always told me 1/3 meat 1/3 bone and hide 1/3 blood and guts.
Never sounded right to me though

I weighed a WI gun kill both ways once. 267lbs all in and 206lbs field dressed.
