Wi velvet buck

Unread postby jchang3 » Tue Sep 17, 2019 12:15 pm

Saw this small buck still in velvet during my hunt. Is this normal? I’m guessing that it is for younger bucks...

Cool!

Every so often someone kills a velvet buck in Wisconsin, but I do think it's rare.

Rare yes. Could have been born later in the spring the year it was born. And is just a little behind other bucks of it's age!!

The 8 that was with my buck was still in velvet. A guy posted a mature MN buck on Fb today still in velvet. They’re hanging on to it later than normal.

I agree I have seen a few velvet 1.5 yr olds the past few days here in WV. I typically always see older bucks shedding late august/early september but the young ones hold it awhile

Awesome! Nothing beats seeing a huge smile on a young hunter’s face when they get one.

Actually haven't seen a hard horned buck yet in Michigan. All have been in full velvet, not even peeling yet. Never seen them hang on to velvet this late.

Everything iv seen in michigan is hard horn now except for the one i posted about the other day, saw him again tonight and hes still full velvet. The deer acts kinda strange, he stays by himself even when theres a bunch of deer out and he just moves slow it seems, i wonder if something is off with this deer.
