Deer move beds if wind changes?

Unread postby Abenak89 » Sun Sep 15, 2019 10:14 am

Title sums it up.. curious everyone's take bedded deer mostly in hill terrain where they bed with say a S wind that switches to a W wind. Do they change up beds kid day depending on wind?

Absolutely. If the wind isn’t in their favor they’ll get up and move. Last year rifle opener in MN where I was hunting the wind spun 180 degrees at about 10:30. A string of shots rang for about 20-30 minutes after a relatively quiet am.
Persistence is undefeated.

Definitely.

I see them dropping off of ridges/points and cross the bottoms going to the next one.

A lot of the bedding areas I find allows for about 100 degrees of wind direction. So the move would be sutle.

Although he is not a 'bed' hunter, this is one thing that Mark Drury has said that I have found to be really true. It seems as though the first new wind after a few days of stagnate winds results in early buck movement. This is most likely because the wind is no longer good where they are bedding.
Anything worth doing, is worth over doing.
