Hi,
I usually use a handheld gps for navigation (garmin etrex 30x). Last few years I have also been using onX on my iPhone to mark waypoints and while scouting. I tried to use onX only while scouting this summer and it was inconvenient to always have to unlock it (finger print) as I was navigating.
Does anyone have a way they get around this annoyance while using just a smartphone app like onX of gaia?
I get turned around easily (especially in the dark) and like to be able to always have my guidance at the ready.
Thanks!

If you are talking about your screen closing out, there is a setting on your phone to set the duration. I shut mine off. I have to manually close it.

Re: Pains of smartphone gps app for navigation
Thx. I’ll check the settings. That, and an external charger, should be the ticket.
Not hiding anything. Wife and son have my passcode. Wife has the three of us on the Life360 app. 24x7 tracking of our gos location and battery status. Also, shows our travel / trips. No hiding from this one.

If you have your battery save on, just swipe down from the top right corner of your screen and tap the battery icon. This will disable the timed lock on your iPhone. I have to do that when I’m using huntstand.
