Late soybeans

Unread postby tim » Mon Sep 09, 2019 1:00 am

I can’t be the only one noticing all the late soybeans in Wisconsin at least here in se wisconsin. I believe thT is gonna play a big role in a lot of big bucks losing their lives this year . Usually by now most are yellowing and there’s just a scarce field here or there or shaded spots that are green ......

You're probably right. Seems like everything was planted late in my area.

One of the places I hunt they just planted last week and barely sprouting yet. Was very surprised about this.

I think most places in the country the soybeans and corn got in late with the weather this year. A lot of fields didn't get planted at all. I had a couple of places in mind this year to hunt public where deer come off of it heading towards private ag. Unfortunately these fields are just weeds.

Might actually be more attractive than the corn and beans.

I’ve seen this quite a bit. Pretty sure they have to plant the fields in order to receive government subsidies for bad growing weather. Prevents them from never buying and using the seeds. See it almost every year up in west central Wisconsin.

Yes you are correct depending upon what is actually growing in them. Haven't seen much activity in them though. We have a lot of acorns hanging here this year, so when our season opens in a few weeks I think that will probably be the preferred food source. Gets later in the year I will have to check out the fields.

See the same thing in Michigan. Empty fields or short corn/beans. It will surely concentrate the field hunters in certain areas. Easier for me to avoid them. Large pockets of acorns, beach nuts, and hickory nuts around here too.

Lots of fields like that in western mn. Preventing planting they call it. They either have to spray and till the field to control weeds or plant a cover crop. Lots of wheat rye turnips and radish drilled in the last month out this way. I believe the planted fields will be plowed in green before freeze up.
It only takes 15 seconds for the hunt of a lifetime.

Probably winter peas. Deer go crazy over it
