Warmest Mid Layer Options
I’m in need of a mid layer clothing option for when temps drop below freezing... thinking of a fleece vest but want something very warm and wind proof if possible. Anybody have insight on some quality material? Does not have to be camo or “hunting” apparel since it’s my mid layer

Re: Warmest Mid Layer Options
Your outer shell should be the wind proof part of your system.
The mid layer should ideally be a puffy jacket, wool, fleece or in other words a layer to trap air/heat to keep you warm. Not block wind. The mid layer should be breathable.
I use a Sitka Celsius midi jacket. I get a nice discount through work thank god but I would recommend a puffy jacket or vest.

Something puffy with some loft to it to keep your outer shell off your base layer as much as possible.
I like Sitka stuff so if I had to recommend something I would say the old kelvin vest if you can find or the newer kelvin active or celsius short sleeve deals.

Re: Warmest Mid Layer Options
I have the first lite uncompaghre jacket that I use as both an outer and mid-layer. Think they make a vest also?? Really like it. Warm and very lightweight...it also compresses down well so it doesn’t feel bulky when wearing it.
I think Thlete guys that advertise in her make a vest called the mad trapper that looks good as well...may be better than the uncompaghre.
Btw, if you are only gonna use it as a mid-layer you could look beyond camo type stuff.
