Being a beast...

Unread postby dan » Wed Aug 28, 2019 10:16 am

Some people talk the talk... But they don't walk the walk... If you have the passion of a BEAST within you, god has not made swamp muck deep enough, rivers wide enough, ridges to steep, or briers to sharp to stop you...

Some guys hide behind a keyboard and make excuses, but there are a unique few whom are more at home neck deep in muck, than locked between 4 walls.

I propose a toast to all the real beast's out there giving it their all, and to all that are no longer with us. Dig down deep this season and take on the challenges head 1st.

If you have a good photo of being a beast, post it in honor of all those whom know what its like push the limits.

Not a fair question
I’m always by myself with no one to take my picture.
This is the best I could come up with..... now the work begins

One of my favorites ever is this one of my little brother on his first out of state trip. He was young enough that we bought him a youth license for that trip, think he’d just turned 14. Coming out from the first morning hunt, in which he’d gone in alone to land he’d never seen just headed to a map dot(and actually had quite a few deer in bow range), after an all night drive with little to no sleep, shirt off because of the heat, but ready to roll to the next spot.

Don’t really have many of me, but here’s dad and I dragging a buck out last fall.

Yup.

Truly wish I took a picture of us swimming across a creek to scout the opposite ridge this past Sunday. As my buddy was swimming across, a water moccasin kicked out of the brush pile 5’ from him. Glad he went first

Agreed on the "I hunt on my own in nasty places" and don't have pictures.

Falling down four times on bog ice covered by a foot of powdery snow and breaking my quiver would have made for funny video.

Walked through 60 yards of knee-deep muck to find these Uber-fresh rubs. Like a dope I thought it might not be a big deer without getting eyes on him. The rub is actually not bad height considering the muck. Bumped him but did not see. I will observation sit that spot on the same day this year.

That's all I got. I'll have to take more pics this year, maybe even in a Beast combo hunt.

Caught myself on one of my own trail cams. Just another day miles deep in the marsh searching for bucks.

I set up my stand ahead in this mess in waist deep water. Later in the day I had ducks swimming under my stand. Saw many of my largest bucks over the years here and killed the one below here.

Out on a lonely island with a sea of cattails surrounding me as far as I could see.

This was a fun drag from deep in the marsh. 225 lbs dressed......he felt much heavier. My back is still screwed up from this one.

I’m not much into taking selfies so very few pics of myself. One of the very few I took.

If you haven’t waded chest deep thru mosquito infested cold marsh water and muck for miles to distant islands you haven’t lived yet.

Honestly I don’t look at it as being a Beast. It’s really all I have ever known. Just another day doing what I enjoy and then looking forward to doing it all over again the next day with no regrets. You gotta love the process and never look at it as work. Every day is a new adventure.
