Shot placement
Where are you aiming on this deer? Pick the option that’s closest to your aiming point if he’s 20 yards away. Red lines are my best guess for bone and diaphragm.

Re: Shot placement
I voted yellow dot but would actually aim between the dot and the 3. I know that's kinda splitting hairs, but............

Re: Shot placement
Yellow dot for me. If I miss high, low, left or right it should be a dead deer....if I don't miss by much.

Re: Shot placement
I think the buck needs one more year. I would go 3. The yellow is a little too close to the shoulder for me.
Edit. I would probably be a little below the 3 towards the 1 and maybe even a touch towards the 4 if you want to get precise.

Re: Shot placement
Has anyone even noticed the 7
I'd probably be on the top edge of the 3.

The 7 is where you actually hit because you had buck fever too bad.

Re: Shot placement
Buy a good assault bow and you can hit all of them.

Re: Shot placement
Btw they show the heart way too far forward in this diagram. It sits on the bottom of the chest cavity protected by the “elbow” joints

Yes that diagram isn't exactly right. For me the trouble with the yellow is a touch forward and you can hit the shoulder and not get the deer. If I go a touch back from 3 then I will still get the deer but maybe just have to wait a little longer. Usually the deer will drop a little which will still put you in the lungs then. Of course I seldom miss my aiming point by more than a 1/4"

Re: Shot placement
I voted yellow dot but I'd actually like to go a little lower still in the event the deer drops. The heart sits really low so that's where I'm aiming. That way it doesn't matter if he drops or not it will be a short track job.

Re: Shot placement
Liver shots can really vary in length of time. This buck my son killed a few years ago was alive more than 12 hrs after the shot. Thought I had a better pic but can't find it. It is the dark spot along the side. Didn't catch any lung, but went straight thru the liver. Never thought the buck would have lived that long. Fortuantely for us when we tried to track that night a few hours after the shot we lost blood. When we went back the next morning we finally found him still alive, but he was about done in. We gave him a few more hours and he was finished.
