2019 Wis. regs out

Unread postby stash59 » Sat Aug 10, 2019 3:35 pm

Went to check something out tonight, once again this week. And was pleasantly surprised to see the 2019 regs were online!!! Was still 2018 a couple days ago!

Don't know if I had missed it in previous years. But I see cutting 1" branches or smaller, at the trunk is legal on public. Hadn't seen that before! Probably some other things too!

Happiness is a large gutpile!!!!!!!

Also, you can leave up to 2 stands overnight on public north of 64. If that was previously allowed I didnt know of it.

That's been in effect for a couple of seasons now.

I had no idea  . Not that I typically would leave anything out there anyway. Would be nice in some of the rut funnel hunts where you plan on going back to the same tree at first light the next day.

I'm curious as to why they allow them to be left overnight in parts of the state and not the entire state?

Larger tracts of public land along with much lower hunting pressure. Reduced conflict between hunters would be my guess. That would never fly in the southern half of the state.

Just read through everything. Cutting branches 1in diameter only applies to the tree your in for setting a stand.

I don't know how other people feel about this, but it's kind of overkill that the crossbow season runs with the regular archery season especially in the areas that have the extended bow season, they are there own weapon and sbould be ran in there own season, unless your disabled or over a certain age.

We have a crossbow season and an archery season so they have always been separate. Just happen to coincide.

Opening Pandora’s box with the crossbow vs bow debate FYI.

Everybody in Wisconsin should be checking the rules for the public they are hunting. Not all public is state owned. County forest is different than state forest which is different than federal which is different than private land opened to the public. What I can do on one property is different than I can do on the other side of the ridge that’s a different property.
