Re: The first shot of the day
Personally I shoot a bunch of arrows up until about a week before season. After that it's one arrow a day at varying distances and varying time held at full draw. Makes me focus and if I make a bad shot it makes me think about it. Doesn't work for all, but it's what has worked for me.

Would be willing to start a FSOTD thing on here with a little help.

Re: The first shot of the day
I seldom shoot more than one arrow, retrieve, next shot, retrieve....... I also practice to 40 yards but wont shoot past 25 with my recurve.

I use this same technique. I typically shoot 3-4 arrows per practice session. After 42 year of shooting, I don't have to worry about muscle memory.

Re: The first shot of the day
My bow target sits in the front yard, at 40 yards. Ever day I step onto my front porch, shoot one arrow to check my POI, then go on about my business.

Re: The first shot of the day
I try to shoot a lot because I have been trying to up my draw weight.
But I do pay attention to first shot. Here is mine today, 30 yards.
Hmm do I need to reduce pic file size to make the orientation right?

That would result in a dead deer for sure.

Re: The first shot of the day
I agree with your pops LD. I'm a Bowhunter not an archer, u get one shot. I don't even know what a 10 ring is. For as long as I can remember I had one goal! Bury my shaft into something with hair on it. Believe a lil bowhunting was in there to I don't hunt from the ground so I don't practice from the ground. I give myself one real world shot a day come summer from a range I don't have a clue of with a broadhead from the tree. If I miss I dwell on it all day and try again from a random distance the next.
I might shoot a 100 arrows everyday but I do what I call productive practice. I pick one thing in my shot process (be it clean release, not moving my bow arm etc..) and I get close and only work on that one particular process over and over. The next day I pick another. Your mind can only do one thing at a time. Just flinging arrows at will doesn't get u any better if u don't address the prob of why u r missing the mark IMO.
I don't practice long shots cause I don't take long shots. What I practice is learning how to get myself close in a range I'm lights out.
