Thanks for the replies guys. It was enjoyable doing the write up. It made me really think about what I do and why.

Lol, you killed a truckload of them last year ;)

FL romp n stomps are an absolute nightmare, no way around it. It isn’t fair tho for me to compare entire states because even tho I have hunted all over FL, when I travel to hunt other states, I am generally seeking out the best public in the best portion of whatever state I am traveling to. So it really isn’t apples to apples. But believe me when I tell you we are somewhere in the bottom of the barrel...

LOL. Thanks for noticing. It was just one of those years where I couldn't make a wrong decision. So in other words a lot of luck. Great job man

Hunt swap for an Osceola is still on the table.

Thanks man.

Osceola numbers are getting pretty strong again. I have had my ear to the ground for a private land opportunity for you.

Excellent write up. Y’all Florida boys consistently getting it done have my respect, having hunted extreme South Georgia I got a brief taste of what it’s like hunting down there

I’m curious, have the invasive pythons altered the deer populations any? I’ve heard of several +10’ snakes being caught, can’t imagine that’s good news for fawn #’s
Nor would I want to walk up on a full grown python in the dark...

Tufrthnails wrote:Great job PK. You need to do a swamp stalking workshop, because I suck at it. Those are some seriously impressive FL Buck kills. One thing you hit on that really hit me was you handful of waypoints. I would be embarrased to show you some of my maps. They look like I shot them with an M-249. And one of the problems with that is I tend to have a lot of historical data in certain areas, because I can't let them go. Still to this day when I hit a certain WMA I "HAVE" to go check this one spot, because of one hunt I had there 15 years ago. And don't get me wrong that historical data is great, but I feel the rut I get stuck in sometimes and just have to throw a dart at the map and find the closest feature that tells yep I need to hunt that just to break myself from the cycle.

I hear you. The waypoints can get out of control. I don’t worry too much if there are a bunch of waypoints with historical sightings and findings, it’s when the map is littered with waypoints of potential bedding or ‘kill spots’. I want the terrain to layout in such a way that if I am interested in say specific a 1000acre section that there are only 2-3 slam dunk looking spots at most.

But honestly, the first time I mark up the map I may throw out 10-12 waypoints on that chunk on anything that catches my eye. Then I will dissect the map further over many different sessions and widdle down those waypoints to what I feel are the best of the best...

I enjoyed the write up a lot, and I have a ton of respect for you and the deer you have killed. I dont like snakes, so I would have zero deer under my belt if I lived in FL.

Well done, sir!

elk yinzer wrote:Nice one PK. I respect you swamp guys a lot because swamps are miserable places in my view.

And I hear you on the scouting time. I spend enough time in the doghouse actually hunting and fishing, for real. In the words of Allen Iverson, I ain't got time for practice!

 the Iverson quote is awesome.

Man, swamps can be miserable but they really get into your blood, just like those hills do.
