Traditional Bowhunters

Unread postby Sequoia » Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:29 am

Watched the hunting beast kill highlight video from last season and was impressed to see a lot of stickbow whitetail hunters on here!

How many of you guys are on here? Anyone near Williamsburg, VA?

I started a little youtube channel just for fun. I hunt out of a saddle with a recurve and use beast tactics on public and private by permission. Thought you guys might enjoy following along. I hunt mostly in coastal VA but also MD and sometimes NC. I'll be filming all my hunts this year and will try to put out some quality stuff! All just for fun. I found that documenting my outings is actually another great way to relish the hunt.

Hope this isn't against forum rules (seems not to be from what I read in the Guidelines).

Follow along if you care to: https://youtu.be/itWOepx9GCo

All hunts will be whitetail with a stickbow out of a saddle or on the ground.

I have built self bows for years but went all trad last season. For me it is another way of challenging myself and I love the simplicity of it.

I have shot stick for a lot of years, because I just liked it.... I went to a lot of trad shoots, and last year in Wisconsin sold a lot of my bows, since I could not pull the heavy weight back anymore, and they were too nice of bows, to not be in someones hands in the field. Presently I shoot a 41lb Black Hunter longbow, with a custom string, aluminum / carbon arrows and 135 grain head, total weight about 505 grains.

Its a close killing bow, and do not shoot beyond 20 yards, and killed two deer this year, inside of 15 with it, complete pass thrus....

that said, I am into deer hunting to kill, big body deer, so I also have the compound, (late season with the let off) and a cross bow,, for special situations like pit blind hunting, and some ground spots........................

I've been shooting recurves for over 46 years now. I have used compounds in the past and still do shoot one now and then. But I love my traditional bows.

I have shot stick bows since I was big enough to walk, but the 2018 season was the first year I deer hunted and turkey hunted with one. Got a 45# Samick Sage and really like it. Didn’t kill anything with it, but am having a lot of fun trying.

Traditional only here as well....love to shoot year round - always practicing for deer season - stump shooting and scouting is almost as much fun as hunting!

Have bowhunted for several years now, compound, and started crossbow after winning a give-away from Parker last year( yeah, sucks they went belly up). O my luck I've had was during firearm season. Trying a takedown recurve this upcoming season, like the simplicity. Wish me happy hunting.
