Re: Heading to scout Missouri
My tip for getting a feel for a new area is study, study, study. If you have burned the topo of the area into your brain, memorized the vegetation change from aerial maps and know ALL the roads and access points without the state brochure then it's road trip time.
Have fun!

good luck,,,, nothing beats a new adventure,,,,, I am old school, but do not forget to photograph your spots you find, and make up your own map book with photos etc..... keep on charging

Re: Heading to scout Missouri
I have been thinking of making a scouting trip to northern Missouri this spring also. Any thoughts on how long until it's to green for good scouting?

Re: Heading to scout Missouri
I'm arriving at a hotel tonight! I have studied maps until my eyes went blurry. I plan on heading out tomorrow morning with my onx maps on my phone. I have a couple waypoints of areas I'm hoping to find bedding. I'm new to trying to find buck bedding but it worked out for me last year in Iowa! I have 4 days of boots on the ground before I head back to Michigan.

Don't waste time in easy access areas, take a buddy with you, its more fun.

Re: Heading to scout Missouri
Unfortunately all my friends had to work. I hiked almost 25 miles found a couple buck beds. I'm worried that the buck to doe ratio is way out of whack. I talked to a couple locals and it seems like almost a 30:1. I found 2 dead buck heads and 12 dead yearlings. They have a huge coyote problem. Also there were alot of ticks. If anyone plans on scouting better bring some permethrin.
