Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
summit 99 percent here. Even on trees with limbs. Ive become very good at getting around them. I just unhook the top, go above the limb, re- hook it up, bring bottom as close as possible, kneel on the seat & bring bottom over limb & re hook it up. So unless its a really bad tree its a climber. Mike

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
Last season was my first integrating in the hang on and sticks. I'm still trying to get comfortable with it but not even close to my climber yet. If the place I'm going is climber friendly it's a no brainer I'm bringing the climber. If I'm going somewhere new I've never set up in I bring the hang on and sticks.

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
On public I’m almost always in my summit Goliath. On my small lease we have a few ladders we use. I have been thinking about trying Hang ons and sticks for places with no good climber trees but I hate heights so I try to set up on the ground when I have too. I’m going to modify a short ladder stand into a tri pods this year to hunt some fields and short planted pines to get just above the dog fennel’s and weeds to get a better shot angle

Tundra , yes I thought about doing that after seeing dan do it but I have a ladder stand I’m not using on hand and I’m thinking I can maybe make it packable since it it in sections already.

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
Where I hunt in Ohio and PA, I can get away with a climber 70 percent of the time. Either using a summit open shot, or and Ol Man. I still am buying a lightweight run and gun this year cause my old cheap sticks and stand I rarely are getting to me, cause when I do use them I love them

My hand climber just sits in the garage. Either the saddle or lock on for me. Should prolly just sell the lone wolf since it’s like brand new.

Mantis saddle. Platform and bullman steps. 8 lbs. 25+ ft if need be. Very quiet set up. Very compact and light for the hills. 360 shooting from just about any tree.

I have both Lone Wolf climber and lock on, I like both and like others utilize them for specific areas I hunt.

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
I have a timber tall climber. Bought it new when i was 16. 31 now. I think it only weighs about 12 pounds. We've killed a ton of deer together. Hunting the hills of PA and OH, i don't really have a need for a hang on if I've pressured the area. It's like a friend to me. Ive lugged that thing everywhere. This was this year... 1.8 miles back from the truck.

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
I'm using a Summit Viper Elite, its the light weight all aluminum model at 17 lbs. Ive stripped it as much as possible and my whole load rarely weighs over 25 lbs total on my back. I've used hangons in the past but I hate setting them up and I'm not really comfortable in them. Im sure this limits me in some areas but I've climbed trees that leaned to one side and twisted too. I'm closing in on 60 and I don't bounce like I used to so I sticking with what I know .

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
Honestly Bill, at our size, I think a climber is just a heck of a lot easier. Maybe because its because I don't practice hunting mobile all that often given that I hunt small private parcels with a crazy number of pre-hung stands, but its tough not to sweat up using sticks and a hangon when you are pushing 350lbs. Not so with a climber.
Obviously we need to be where we need to be to kill what you are targeting, but having compared the mobile options, I do prefer a climber if its possible.

Re: Anyone still pick a climber?
I choose it over my assault if I know there will be a tree for me to climb. Living in WV, there lots of straight trees with few limbs. So I do pack it at home more than when I am hunting in the midwest.
Anything worth doing, is worth over doing.
