Hunting Release preference
What style release do you hunt with?
Wrist strap index?
Thumb trigger?
Or back tension?
Any why?

Re: Hunting Release preference
I shoot a “like mike” index release. It breaks like glass and is weight adjustable. I have it set at nearly 4 pounds and fire it with back tension but I can still get off really fast shots on moving deer or timing small openings by squeezing the trigger withmy finger.

Re: Hunting Release preference
I shoot a wrist rocket, its a Fletcher. I started engaging the trigger with my middle finger a couple of years ago, I think it minimized the potential torque on the string. I have observed a noticeable difference in shots breaking really clean, but I was always kind of a trigger slapper to begin with.

Re: Hunting Release preference
During the off season I shoot a hinge, then about early August I switch to a caliper release. I shoot the hing because it makes me a better shooter, and keeps me from getting target panic, but I don't trust it or want to wait for it to go off on an animal. I shoot all year round.

I also shoot a carter index finger release with a hook. Mine is older but kind of similar to the quickie. simple sear design, silent, with the open hook I don't need to look at it to load, very short trigger travel with a dead stop, and it's all very adjustable. it does the job. And a buckle strap no velcro for me.

Re: Hunting Release preference
I shoot a Whalen hooker back tension release for hunting and love it. I never could shoot a index finger release well at animals due to target panic and triggers.

Re: Hunting Release preference
I’ve used a lot of releases. Trigger, hinge, thumb. I probably prefer the thumb button because it can save you a precious second or two hooking up to the string at the moment of truth.
I love the hinge but it has cost me a couple of deer over the years (thankfully no big ones just due to a weird shot angle and not being able to get enough tension to make it go off).

I shoot the "Wise Guy" By Spothogg. It's a wrist strap release with a super light trigger. I shoot it because I get great groups with it.

Certainly can’t leave them at home, although when it’s freezing they may stop working! That’s the same way I shoot my longbows and recurves

Re: Hunting Release preference
I use a tru fire wrist strap release. I tried an expensive thumb release for a few months in the off season and it was dreadful. I’d accidentally bump the release sporadically and spray arrows all over the place.
Persistence is undefeated.
