I was doing some scouting on a piece of public by my house the other day and came across an open water hole. I live in Minnesota and everything is froze solid right now, we are driving trucks on the lakes for fishing. It got me wondering if anyone has hunted over any open watering holes in late season when everything else is froze up? The water was coming from drain tile in nearby fields and the rest of the cattail marsh is froze solid. Anybody have any experience with anything like this where there's an open water source late in the year?
Thanks

Re: Water hole in late season
I would think reguardless of the conditions deer do drink fresh water when possible! I know when it gets that way here in ky, ive always busted ice for cattle everyday when i open it up they flock to fresh water! I guess in worst cases they would eat snow if they have too Scout it out for tracks.
Bucks,ducks, turkeys,and bass!
