Re: scout-scout-hunt
I never cared mud for scouting a spot I want to hunt in season. This year though, after gun season I scouted a spot I thought would be good for 2018. I didn't get back there cause of the water.. When it froze up a few weeks ago I went back to a spot that had more rubs and beds than any place I've ever seen in Jan. 2018. Two weeks ago showed very little buck sign. Maybe cause there was so much rain the beds were under water. I did kick up 2 does however. It goes to show it might help to scout in season but does that put pressure on the deer to leave?

Depends. They are there for a reason. So if it’s the best spot, they will be back. Also depends on where you go. If you go right in the bed, yeah you might blow them out for awhile. But if you walk down a hiking trail and check tracks, you aren’t harming anything.
What I saw in the video is that spring scouting is the time to bust the bedding and cover ground and learn the area. In season is just speed scouting to see what areas are worth hitting and how it should be hit that day.

Re: scout-scout-hunt
That was a great video and awesome tracking knowledge shared. I never would have put together the guess that those tracks were made in the evening the way you did. Congrats on the doe too!

Re: scout-scout-hunt
Thanks Dan! Another good video. Hopefully that spot pays off for you guys with a buck down in the future. I enjoyed the signature critter catch, that's always a nice touch to give us a good laugh at the end.

Re: scout-scout-hunt
Nice video, I really enjoyed it. I think scouting more than I hunt is the most important thing I've learned from this site. I was looking back on my own personal hunting journal the other night and found that in the last 4 yrs the time I spent scouting was three times as many days as I actually hunted. I love scouting and at this point I tend to look at it as just part of the hunt its self.
