Chop that rascal up and throw it in a cooler. It has to be done eventually anyway

Re: Transporting A Deer Without A Truck
This is the pic I was thinking of but couldn't remember where to find it.
Popularity of the pickup truck for hunting didn't really start until the 1950's. Heck even for construction workers. Lot's of old time photos of deer stacked on cars.

Yep. Hauled plenty of bucks in cars this way. Once you get good at it you will wonder why you ever dragged and loaded a whole deer.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

I would pay a quarter to see that...
There's a guy who hunts near me on another forum I'm a member of (northeastshooters.com). I've seen him stuff many a deer into the trunk of his shiny new Infinity G37. If it's got a decent rack he can't close the trunk. So he lets the head hang out and wraps the bone in towels so it doesn't scratch his paint..
I wouldn't even consider trying to get an animal onto the roof of any vehicle... They're awkward and heavy enough hauling in a cart or sled, nevermind an overhead lift. If space is too tight, as otherwise suggested quarter it up.

Who needs a car?
Easiest way with a car is to put on a 2” receiver. Viking even makes a deer cart that is designed to mount to a trailer hitch. A tarp is necessary to keep out the road dirt and grime though.

Do you live in a state where you can quarter the deer? You could break it down and put it in a cooler in the back seat.

My first car was a 89 jeep Cherokee where the hatch didn't open so I'd throw them in the back seat. Nowadays, if I'm fmdragging them out, it's in an ice fishing sled which I lift right into the back hatch. Works great and doesnt leave any blood stains like the old way did.

I have a hitch haul for my Jeep Grand cherokee. I hate it on the back it makes it tuff to get in the rear cargo area. I'm actually considering getting a front trailer hitch and mounting it up there. We used tarps in cars for years. The trick is to use a big enough tarp that you can wrap the deer up in it like a burrito to prevent any spillage.

I use cheap shower curtains for my trunk so I don’t get blood on the carpet in the trunk. Works perfect

I think if I were you, I'd get one of those ice sleds with the high sides. Put your seats down and slide your monster buck in like that. Post some pics when you do!

Re: Transporting A Deer Without A Truck
Love this thread. Keep the pics coming. Whenever my truck conks out, I’m looking at getting a compact SUV for better cargo space and fuel economy. So, I’ve been thinking about how all that would work and come up with some ideas to haul a deer without wrecking the vehicle.

Re: Transporting A Deer Without A Truck
I have a truck but in some of the places I hunt I would rather people see my small elantra on the side of the road versus my truck. I've even gone as far as to put a white rag in the window just to make people passing by think I'm broken down.
You'd be surprised by the amount of guys who all of a sudden "found" a new spot right where I was hunting.
