2 PVC pipes in the swamp

Anybody know what these are? I found several sets of 2. Always one short, one tall. It was in a Marsh grass/phragmites clearing in a big cedar/black spruce tamarack swamp.
Some sort of water level thing? Pretty remote area. At least a mile through thick swamp from the nearest access.

Piezometers like Lou said. Put them where you need the data points. Measure water levels, quality, and how fast water can flow through the ground for groundwater. So stuff 99.9% of the general population doesn’t have much interest in.
