Lowest feasible hunting height in a saddle
Sorry for all the saddle questions..... never saddle hunted. What is the lowest feasible height to hunt from. Is it a lot like treestand hunting and you hunt where the cover is or best vantage point? It seems you would get picked off more in a saddle at lower heights due to your profile. This is just inexperience talking though.

Re: Lowest feasible hunting height in a saddle
I killed a buck last year on a bump and dump setup at around 8' in a tiny maple tree. The buck came back and bedded at 40 yards and then moved closer and bedded at 24 yards. It was a horrible setup and I wasn't even ready when he came in so it was very awkward. When he stood up at 24 yards I shot him. He had no clue I was there. in early season I will often setup in good cover 10-12' off the ground.

My platform was at 5 feet on the buck I killed this year. Won't say that I couldn't have done the same from a lock on though.

All of the above, in my view. The higher up the more movement you get away with.

I've hunted on the ground and not been picked off. But twice I've had an old doe come in from behind me, follow my sticks up the tree and pick me at 25'.

Re: Lowest feasible hunting height in a saddle
The highest I hunt is around 16 feet. The lowest is from the ground sitting in my saddle. I just try to be where the freshest sign is regardless of tree selection or height of setup.
