This morning I witnessed something that has had me chuckling ever sense. Ive seen many cool things over the years and these bucks never fail to amaze me. It's said that deer can't think or rationalize everything they do is just instinct. I'm no scientist so I don't know but they are smart enough to suit me.
Hunted a long ridge line this morning above a side ditch. Around 7:45 I see horns coming my way so I threw up the binos and a no question about it shooter 9pt coming down the pipe. About 50 yards from me he stops and goes up to the top of the ridge in a small patch of young cedars. I watch him stretch out his neck and peak over the ridge for about 10 min. Then he rubbed trees or laid down and every 15 min would peak back over the ridge. This went on all morning, over 2 hours! Keep in mind big shooter buck inside 50 yards, so I'm at the ready this entire time. I know it's a 50/50 if he continues on his path he will pass my perch at 12 yards or he can go back the way he came. After 2 hours and one flick of the tail he was out of my life back the way he came.
Upon climbing down I couldn't take it, I walked to where he stood and peaked over the ridge! A good 175 yards away on the next ridge over (neighboring property) there is a feeder as clear as day! Sucker was hunting him some hunnies.

I know what ya mean about frustrating. But I learned along time ago in a 50/50 they make the right call 7 out of 10 times. I'm Sure u and everyone else needed one more step, a simple turn or to just follow his same path way more times than we actually got it. IMO u let that kinda stuff get ya down your in for a bumpy ride. I just try to enjoy the show. I got to see a fine buck up close which provided a lil heart pound, still got a buck tag in the pocket, he's still out there, plenty of time on the clock and I made a great memory! How bad can life be lol

You know that would make it a 70/30 or 30/70, right. Just kidding.
