Tracking deer-antler size indication
I made a video explaining one way that you can help determine the rack size of a buck that you might decide to track.

Re: Tracking deer-antler size indication
doing this exact same thing as helped me identify some of the big bucks im after. the deer where i hunt buck and doe both seam to have tracks of the same size but if you just follow the deer for a little while you will figure out if its the deer your after big racked bucks walk a different path.

Re: Tracking deer-antler size indication
Good tips.
I broke off on a track last Monday of what I am positive was an older buck. Large tracks, with long stride and good side to side width. He walked right between two trees that were too narrow for a decent rack to pass through no matter what position he could have turned his head. A bigger racked buck would have walked around the two trees. Perfect example of an older northwoods buck with a small rack. Figured it wasn’t worth pursuing him any further.

Re: Tracking deer-antler size indication
I was going to suggest to look at some of those hat cams that are out. I used to have one and the footage was very good for what it was. It would be perfect for a guy tracking and then capturing something on cam like bumping deer. Im going to get a new one and start using ir for scouting since I like taking footage anyways.

I have a tactacam and tried it using a head mount. When I go to shoot I would be aiming it in the ground so I decided to mount it on my gun so I might be able to get the shot. If there is enough interest I intend to get a second camera for my headband.

It sounds like you haven't adopted much by way of GPS technology, but have you ever traced one of your tracking jobs? I've started turning on the breadcrumb feature when on a track and its pretty interesting. I wish I had started doing it earlier.

Re: Tracking deer-antler size indication
thank you for sharing the video... one thing I thought of while watching is.. now correct me if im wrong.. when observing a big bucks track they can like you said apply more weight/flat foot appearence and also the ends of their toes will curl inward? this to me is also a good indication of a good size older animal.. again correct me if im wrong
