Reminds me of a story my dad used to tell. He shot a nice buck and walked over to it. The buck appeared to be dead and he hung his hat on the antlers, leaned his gun against a tree, and went back to get his knife out of his pack. When he got to the pack he turns around and the buck is standing there with his hat on.
He got his hat back but never got the buck. Later in the day he shot a smaller buck, he made sure that one was very dead.
I always come up from behind them and poke them in the eye with my bow or gun.
