Reminds me of a story my dad used to tell. He shot a nice buck and walked over to it. The buck appeared to be dead and he hung his hat on the antlers, leaned his gun against a tree, and went back to get his knife out of his pack. When he got to the pack he turns around and the buck is standing there with his hat on. :D

He got his hat back but never got the buck. Later in the day he shot a smaller buck, he made sure that one was very dead.

I always come up from behind them and poke them in the eye with my bow or gun.

Probably hurt worse to get the wound cleaned out and stitched.

I agree. Who would stick around in the woods for a picture with a gash like that on your head. Forget the deer. Get to the E.R. asap.
