Fresh Sign-Rubs

Unread postby B Hunter » Fri Nov 16, 2018 1:24 pm

I understand the importance of finding fresh sign. The question I have, however, is how to determine how fresh the sign is (rubs in particular). More specifically, I don’t know how to determine a week or two old rub to a day or two old rub.

What are the indicators of really fresh rubs?

Thanks

Lockdown made a post about the freshness of rubs a few weeks back. Rubs can very quite a bit based on the species of tree but color and how fresh the bark that has been scraped off can give an idea of how old it is.

Here's a link to the thread.

Biggest/best thing I took from it. Is to take the back of a knife and scrape off a small area of the rubbed area. If it's quite abit darker the rub is 2+ says old. Darker the rub looks compared to the new knife scrapings. The older it is!
