I’ll be hunting a new piece here in a few weeks. I’m used to hills and this is almost entirely flat land. There are lots of clear cuts, a big powerline, and dirt roads throughout the property. It’s a club that I share with other guys. I’ll be timing it mostly prerut/rut.
My question is what do you guys look for the most when hunting flat land? I’ve heard deer like “low” areas even if it’s only a few feet. This property has lots of edge. It’s mostly pines, limited hardwoods, and a few creeks sprinkled throughout. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: What to target in flat land
I would look anywhere low
Anywhere low is most likely gonna be wet.
And deer like to bed on transition around water.
Try too find out ehere your fellow club members hunt and go where everyone else either doesnt go to or is just too lazy too go
Overlooked spots are probably the best
Good luck

Any elevation difference, be it higher or lower, on the transition lines. A few feet difference is all you need. Probably won’t show up on a topo map. You’ll have to use the old shoe leather express to find it.

Just to add to what others have said....
I am guessing the roads you were alluding to had ditches? If so, look for heavy cover in those ditches. I have blown a lot of deer bedding out of roadside ditches.
Look for any transition at all. Where hard woods meet pines, fence lines, where cover meets wide open spaces, etc.

Transition changes in wood line. Ditches, thicker timber or brush. Places hard to get too.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
