Arrow hits on bucks that’s leave no blood.

Unread postby Tennhunter3 » Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:40 pm

I shot a good buck with my bow this evening have no blood and no arrow. I heard a real loud cracking noise when arrow hit him.

My orange luminock is not visible anywhere.I think it did not pass through and is stuck in buck.

Have you guys shot bucks that leave no blood and found the buck? I looked for two hours so far in dark and will look most of the day tomorrow.

I've had it happen on high shoulder shot. Arrow buried in offside shoulder and no blood for 150 yards. If you got access to a tracking dog. It might be a good Idea to have it out their in the morning.

I've had it happen on quartering away shots, enter behind the diaphragm and then into the chest with no exit, guts then close seal the entrance. Hight hits or muscle you may not get much blood right away but after 50 to 100 yards I usually see good blood but muscle blood then if not fatal it slowly dissipates. So many scenarios. Good luck.

^ This. Can be tough to recover and a lot of times isn't lethal. Good luck!

If you had a loud whack noise you probably hit shoulder bone. Buried it up in front shoulder.

How far was shot?
How fast did deer leave when you shot?
How was he running?
Did you see arrow sticking in him?
How did he react when you shot him?
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

31 yards broadside.
Stuck around did not appear limping.
Hopped uphill a few feet looked around and ran back torward bedding area downhill.

Arrow passed through several small limbs leaves in tree. So it could have deflected.

Arrow made a very loud pop crack when it hit. Happened so fast with leaves in way I’m not sure where arrow hit. No big limbs finger size or larger were in the way of arrow flight.

I was kinda in a shock I really tried not look at horns and focus on shot. Never had a buck of that size in bow range it was a blur. From him walking up to shot and out of view couldn’t have been 2 minutes.

My glowing numelock was not visible anywhere in surrounding area.

High hits with no exits are the only hits I've seen with no blood.

My thoughts are you may have hit a tree and shut off the luminoc. If you shoulder shot the buck he would have tore out of there.

From what you’re saying, it sounds like you might have hit the scapula. I shot a buck at 7 yds a few years back and also heard a crack. Arrow only penetrated a few inches and then fell out as he crashed through brush.

Hope you find him.

Sounds to me like you never made contact. You probably deflected arrow and buried it up in a tree. That would be reason for whack sound. Sounds like buck was trying figure out what just happen. But, its worth a grid search to make sure today. I wish you luck, you never know. Keep us updated.

Rush an excitement never gets old. Enjoy.

Maybe a clean miss hitting a tree

But seeing him limp id bet comeback kid is correct

I hit the scapula once...but if the arrow didnt break you would’ve seen it in him for sure.

If you didnt push him too far last night, id say you will find sign to follow today

I had a high shoulder shot last year that had almost no penetration. The arrow broke off immediately and was laying on the ground where I shot him. I was able to follow blood for about 100 yards but it was very sparse.

If you actually hit the deer. The loud whack indicates you hit bone. Center punching a rib is loud. As can be the shoulder blade of an older deer. Hitting the ball joint of the shoulder not always. Many times a high lung shot, especially with no exit. The first blood you get is when they start coughing it out their mouth. Usually in all of the examples I mentioned. The animal runs off hard. The brain can play tricks on us when we are excited or stressed. Don't always remember what we actually saw. You still owe the buck a good solid go at a search.

Good luck and keep positive. You did the hard part right. You placed yourself where a mature buck walked in daylight!

I had a similar hit on a buck two years ago. Almost slight quartering away at 35 yards, I hit him what I think was 4 inches high and the arrow disappeared as I watched it go in. No arrow, no blood, but this buck booked it out of there. Never found blood, arrow or deer after two days of searching. If you think you hit vitals, get a dog. If you think it's high and in the void area- the deer may live. Sorry man, thats a tough scenario. Hope you find him!

Double lunged a doe once that ran 100 yards and died but I never found a drop of blood. It was a pass through and only a tiny smear of blood on one fletching.

Hope you find him
