Re: Public booners
People throw around the term booner but to make Boone and Crocket the deer has to net the required score. I believe I've seen 1 deer in my life that was wild that would have netted Boone and Crocket as a non typical and he was in my headlights. Going to be a small group of guys who've killed one on public or one at all.

Re: Public booners
It takes a lot to make a booner. Most guys that glimpse a 150-160" deer for a few seconds will almost always claim "he was so big, had to be a booner!" I have a few buddies that have killed legit net booners here on Iowa public, but I've only ever seen 1 that would make boone.

Re: Public booners
I’ve never seen a B&C on public while hunting but I’ve seen 2 coming out of public driving around. There first was a pretty well known buck that likely spent all of his time in a closed sanctuary. He would come out after dark and hit one particular corn field, the local warden was even aware of him. Likely keeping tabs for poaching activity as he was fairly visible after dark.
Second was night before gun opener in the grand river marsh in Wisconsin. My dad and I almost hit a double drop tine jaw dropper with the truck. Stood in the road in our headlights, we got a nice long look at him. Dad still talks about that buck every year to this date as we round that corner on the way to the farm. Largest buck he’s ever seen in the wild.

Re: Public booners
My hunting group shot a 217” on a drive. He was jumped two guys away from me but running in my direction. He died before he made it to me. I’d post a pic, but I don’t feel like getting a headache.

I've never seen a booner. That's a unicorn here.

My largest public buck up to this point scored 135.

Re: Public booners
I choked and missed one that would have grossed mid 160s-170 on the edge of public.
Still hurts to talk about it

Re: Public booners
I was hunting with my brother and he 20 yard heart shot a beautiful 170" non typical on public land. it was shotgun season, I heard him fire three times very close together, then screaming and hollering lol great buck but that drag out sucked.
