Why no milkweed in the south?

Same as what I've found in west tn. I've seen the plants grow and have some that I transplanted in my yard but it never produces pods after 2 years. I have only found a small pod or two in the woods and it's rare, cause I've looked.

I wish I'd read this before I cast out about 5000 seeds. Hopefully some come up. If not I'll try again next year.
