I found out an interesting fact about Monarch butterflies and milkweed. During the caterpillar stage of the lifecycle of the Monarch, they eat milkweed. They injest the toxins and birds will not eat the Monarch as they become toxic from the milkweed.

In my area it's almost their entire diet!

Birds may not eat them but some flies and Hornets target them. We have "raised" about 50 caterpillars to chrysalis and about 2 or 3 in 10 would hang upside down then die before making a chrysalis. Shortly after that a certain fly larva would burst out of the caterpillar a la Aliens. Creepy.

Yeah do we need a picture or is just the word enough?

If it’s just the word then my beer at 8am is justified. If not, well it’s college.

I have a hole punched paper bag of white fluff drying by the window now. Should pack it up soon into my pill bottle

I found my first milkweed this past weekend and picked two gallon size Ziploc bags full. Hopefully I'll be set for awhile. Took forever to track some down, but now that I know what I'm looking for I'm seeing more of it.

A nice blue ribbon tall boy is sure making this hydrogeology assignment a lot easier. My professor probably won't agree with that statement though, but that's ok :shifty:

I live in a very rural area it's all along the roadside out here. Along railroad right of ways, in overgrown fields, power lines/pipeline right of ways, I witnessed it overtake multiflora this past year, choked it out... I'm betting your walking right past it.

It’s everywhere in Michigan. I have a private stock of mike weed growing in our front flower bed. My wife tried to pull it out. I thought I was going to have to serve her devorce papers. Just kidding. She did want to pull them out through.
