"The Hunting Public" Mapping Public Land Whitetail
I am sure most have heard of THP and if you haven't, I highly recommend following them. They have been putting out the best video content out there recently and it's even more intriguing simply for the fact that they are on this forum and are beast style hunters. I have noticed that we have been getting tons and tons of new members on here lately so this post is especially for you guys.
Right now they are working on a 5-step video series on mapping public land whitetails and they break down each step of their whole process in doing so both using OnX maps and on foot. Here are the following steps:
1. Finding Public Land to Hunt
2. Identifying Access and Hunting Pressure
3. Scouting Access Points
4. Identifying Bedding Areas
5. Picking Stand Locations(not yet released)
I won't get into detail, just trust me and watch these videos and put them to use. I spent the majority of the day Sunday looking at Public Land here in Michigan on OnX, checking access points on foot afterward and finding potential buck bedding back on the map last night after the 4th video released.
It's content that not only helps you, but it also gets you pumped up for the season. This forum, Dans videos and DVDs alone already drive me to put my time in knowing that it leads to better success, but I can assure you that watching their videos will help accent that drive.

I agree completely- their shows are full of info and have excellent production quality as well. This is one of the only shows I'll invest my time in watching, and seem to learn something (if not several somethings) every single episode. Not only that, the guys are genuinely fun to watch- they scout and scheme as a team, hunt as a team, and celebrate success as a team.
Keep up the good work gentlemen, us "regular hunters" appreciate what you're doing.

Their mapping series is really good and reinforces beast tactics. I have been using OnX maps for the past year and am very happy with it so far. Looking forward to their deer tour series this fall!

Relating to the Mapping series they are now doing. For some of you hunting only private land, you can both practice and use some of these steps as well if your willing to get out of your comfort zone, even land that you have been hunting for years. Look at the map and check out those spots you never go into on that specific piece. Pull your map up and cross off areas that are in and surrounding your treestands, access routes, trail cameras, etc. and focus on the areas you never go in for potential bedding. There were areas I had never even stepped foot on a piece of private land I have hunted over the past few years and I was amazed at what I had found after using some of these techniques. They say the deer will live anywhere there are no to very little human intrusion given they have the correct wind advantages. Think about it.

That's exactly what I'm doing as my primary focus this year. I just started digging into beast-style tactics back in May and have some some preliminary scouting with boots on the ground, but honestly am planning to do more "blind" hunts by doing exactly what you're talking about. New stands are added every year, and old stands are essentially abandoned, so I'm going to focus on being mobile and hunting where the pressure isn't. This is all on property I've hunted for 15 years, so I feel like doing this will shorten the learning curve as far as learning the land goes, and hopefully accelerate me to some success to build off of as I dive into public hunting as well.

I really like this series. For me, and I’m sure a lot of other beasts, it solidifies ideas or actions we have or have taken. For non beasts though, I feel like this is the best fast track course they can take. Which is what I perceive this was made for. THP in general is my favorite media outlet, they do exceptional work and this series is no different!

Great plan. Have to start somewhere.

Yes! They have gotten me very excited for hunting this year. I am trying to employ some of their techniques on public land this year and will see what happens...

Re: "The Hunting Public" Mapping Public Land Whitetail
As stated above the guys over at THP are crushing it right now. They caught my attention at the start of the 2018 turkey tour. I’m excited to hear more about this “friendly” hunting contest on public land with Dan. I’m also curious to see them head to the north east next year for the public land whitetail tour.
You can’t hunt something that’s not there
