When bucks are full out?

Unread postby Hatchetman » Mon Jul 30, 2018 4:21 am

If you had to give a date, when would you say antler growth is at maximum growth for the year in your state?

Right now,( 7/29), in Wisconsin I'd guess 90%
By 8/18 I'm thinking they're pretty much done.

What you say?

on the east coast buy me mature bucks are done mid august they peak growth in july but in june they are long brows and heavy beam out too there 3s. young bucks are more slow and steady till early September and are more of a spike in june. mass is put on before tine so if they are growing past a tine on main beam the tines wont get much bigger. any tine thats still growing is going to have a lump at the tip. but once that beam carry's forward the tine growth slows to about half or less.

It varies. I have seen them grow a lot in August.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

x2. If I had to pick a single date, I'd say by Aug 7th, you're seeing 95%+ complete growth.

By last week of July into middle of August they are done.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

95% of mine are all done by last few days of July but there be a few stragglers that might take up to mid Aug.

I agree with this, some in NC Wisconsin are done currently, some have a good amount of growing left. Very animal specific.

This is an article Charles Alsheimer wrote on the antler growth process.

I deliver pizza few nights a week from 4:30 pm til 1am
its sweet becsuse i can see whats where and when in alot of public i hunt.
I really have noticed (at least in crp field edges which are visible and in bean fields) that the bucks imo are almost done.
I have been seeing two beautiful bucks in 2 certain areas
On my routes. I have a pretty good idea how they are bedding throughout the year too. From this past post season scouting trips.
I can only imagine whats on the corn fields. In my opinion they are in the very last inches of growth if not already done here. Im going out tonight try to get some pics of some. Ill post.

Every buck is different. Have one buck I know is 5-6 yrs old and hes gonna probably be a 145-150" 8 pt when all is said and done. Right now looks to be two weeks behind a lot of the other 2-4 yrs olds. Mid August the majority should be done growing here in Central NC.
