Retirement dreams - question for guys that have access to 3+ states to hunt
So I'm 35 and I've been doing a ton of retirement planning & making sure I'm saving enough in my 401k to retire when I want to. My younger brother is a trooper and will be retiring pretty much the same time I plan to. I started dreaming about when I retire, how awesome it would be to own a camp somewhere near where 3 or more states intersect so within a 30-minute drive from camp, you could hit be in one of 3 states. Then I'd basically spend all of November there and if/when we tag out in one state, just shoot across to another state. So my question is, how many guys here that have access to 3 or more states in a year actually hunt all 3+ of those states?

reside in NE Iowa then hunt Wi, Mn, and Ill.
south and north Dakota would be in reach as well as some others.

I’ve looked at doing this if I could get a particular job. Live on the minnesota Iowa border (south side) and commute to Wisconsin for work. 30-45 minutes to a good sized city for work, hunt Iowa every year, access to 3 top states total since Wisconsin and minnesota are otc.
I think it would be awesome. Even if you don’t hunt all three, the option to do so would be nice. Especially if opening days are staggered, or different gun seasons, could be sweet.

I live in Michigan, just north of Ohio. And I'm only a few hour drive from Indiana. I haven't gotten good enough to tag out in Michigan yet, but if I do, I sure am looking forward to jumping some state lines!
Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.

Midwest Whitetails will get boring imo. Go West. Get into a state with good elk and Muley hunting for residents. Out of state whitetails are a dime a dozen.
If I could pick anywhere it would be NW MT close enough to the ID line to hunt there if MT tags are full. Good Elk, Muley, whitetail, Bear, Turkey, oh and the fishing... yea I would pack my bags now if I could.

I plan on this very thing. My land is corner of Wisconsin. Like magic speaks of. Moving to Iowa would be the best bet but I’d love a place on my land in Wisconsin..... decisions

Imo you are basing your retirement on one month a year. To me location doesn't matter in retirement because you have no where to be. Buy a tow behind camper and hunt wherever you want. Live somewhere with no state income tax.

Iowa would be my home state for deer hunting, if I had to choose. Take your pick of adjoining states from there.

I hunt some in Indiana only cause our family farm is 2 miles from the border in Michigan and half mile from Ohio. That area lacks public land tho. Prime private in the tri state area would be better. I’d wanna be close to three states with tons of public. Somewhere out west maybe

This is what i plan to do.
Invest in a quality small pop up camper and travel to hunt. Small saves more fuel is easier to drive on gravel roads and easier to park.
Americas not that big of a place to drive around to hunt.
Missouri- Iowa -Illinois borders pretty good also a great hub location. Most of Iowas bc bucks come from southeast corner near Missouri. Then within 4 hours your in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana.

Do you plan on hunting public? If so, amount of public land within a reasonable drive has to be thrown into the decision
