Ditto!
Made drastic changes in my setup this year. I was shooting 125 grain rage chisel tip, on a 30'' cabelas carbon hunter 340. Total arrow weight of around 395-415gr.
New setup 125 zwickey eskimo, 100 gr brass insert, 27'' victory 350, 5gpi arrow tube weight for a grand total of 611 gr arrow weight. I want a freight train for my setup and i think i found it! cut on contact 1000% from here on out.
Confused about your Eskimo. The 125 gr is a glue on head. The standard screw on head is sold as a 160 (although they ring in at 168). I use a 100gr steel adapter in mine so they come in at 235-238 gr.
Emrah
Yep glue on, I said 100gr brass insert, I should have said 100gr brass adapter. !

They will all fail in the wrong spot. But the "could be right" spot is where I want the advantage. Simple design, cut on contact, good steel, easy to sharpen, and I can likely shoot the same heads until I either lose them or die of old age.
185 to 300.00 bucks for a pack of 3 heads (models vary in price) and 10 weeks for order processing and delivery.... You must really like those heads.... I understand the difference in manufacturing, 100% machined, no molding, no welding. But is the performance delta really worth the price delta? I mean you could buy like 30 Muzzys for the price of 3 of these...
Over the short term, no. And in total transparency, I got some free to test. They had sale prices and much shorter turn around times for a good while, but I think they've just gotten a lot busier fulfilling orders since then. I'm a big fan of machined heads in general. Some of the other ones I've used also have lifetime warranties which makes them a better value. The blades get small dings, or you might bend a ferrule, but usually not something so extreme that it'll cost an animal. And then it's just a small shipping fee to get a new head. Not a bad way to go. The steel that Bishop uses just takes more of a beating. As long as you didn't lose it, I think you could legitimately use the same head for decades. It's like, if there were a 5 pound tree stand from machined titanium. Would it cause you to kill more deer than an 8 pound cast aluminum? Probably not, but some people would still buy it despite a massive cost delta.

I'm surprised I don't hear about more people using the Strickland Helix BHs. Shoot great (same as my field points at 60) and produce unreal damage. Not enough marketing apparently?!?!

Re: 2018 broadhead choice
Currently beefing up my compound arrows and I’ve got two different arrow configurations to try out this season. One has the 150 gr Tusker Javelin. The other I’m gonna tip with a 225 gr VanDieman single bevel. Pretty excited to try them out this season.
Teaching is only demonstrating that it is possible.... Learning is making it possible for yourself.

Re: 2018 broadhead choice
Will be using the tryed and tryed Magnus buzzcuts 2 blade, rage ss, shwaker low ke, killzone low ke and slicktrick standards all in 100 grain.
But to be honest my own personal believe get the arrow up too 450 or more grains with over 16% foc and tune the bow and arrow setup to the max, and with the right vane size you can kill with any broadhead.

Re: 2018 broadhead choice
I'll probably have a couple muzzy 3 blade 100gr in my quiver and a couple mechanical. Just ordered grim reaper, rage, and swhacker. Going to do some testing to see which I like best. Hoping for some a big entrance hole and a lot of blood.

Re: 2018 broadhead choice
I think this thread proves there are a lot of effective broadheads. Use what you're confident in. I will be using QAD Exodus again this year. Love their penetration and durability. Used to shoot rage and a few other mechanicals but didn't like their penetration and they were pretty much one shot and done.

I actually switched from VPA's to QAD's a couple years ago and I'm very happy. I'm not going to talk bad about VPA because I know they have a huge following and have stood the test of time but I will say there is a reason I switched. I'd be surprised if you didn't like the QAD's. Best flying fixed blade out there IMO.
