New to the beast
Beasts,
I am beyond ready to dive into the beast style of hunting. It's really speaking to me and I'm eating it up. I've listened to every podcast. I've been browsing through the forums. I've watched some material on YouTube.
I'm hunting a farm that backs up to a 1000 acre wood lot. Farm is 350 acres with about 80 wooded. (So basically 100 acres of hunting ground considering there are a few fields mixed in the woods). The farm is also neighbored by other farms growing crops as well. I have found bedding (which i think is does bedding based off observation) i do not know where the bucks are bedding for sure. Scrapes and rubs are everywhere. I plan on doing pre season glassing. I had two mature bucks on camera past season. Didn't seal the deal on either. And that's where I'm at.
My question: for someone new to this, where should I start? Seems like the hill country bucks DVD is foundational. Should I buy that? Do I just keep reading forums, and watching what videos are on YouTube? I NEED to improve the learning curve as much as possible.
Thanks in advance

Re: New to the beast
The hill country dvds are second to none in my opinion it opened up a completely new way of going about things. This will be my first year hunting beast style and using the knowledge gained from the dvds and from the members my first 2 scouting trips put me on buck beds in a new state. "Wife and I just moved to ky so she could be closer to family." Use the search feature there's more information than any one person could ever hope to find out on their own in these pages, and don't be shy ask for help this is honestly the most humble group of hunters I've ever spoken too. Good luck out there

Glad you joined us. You got plenty time to do your home work before season opens.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: New to the beast
Ok I couldn't stand it anymore and just bought the hill country DVD. Can't wait to watch that. Best I can tell is I'm on my way to a solid beast style foundation now. If there's anything you guys feel like adding, please help a future beast out. Anything that really helped you out at first, stuff like that.

Re: New to the beast
Welcome Jake. Check out the All time best tactical thread. There are a PILE of threads in there with some great info. The vids really break it down well. I would say Watch the vid and get a list of questions together as you are watching the vid and a lot of them will probably be answered by the end of the vid, but their are a ton of guys on here that will help with any questions you have. Also If your questioning yourself on topos and stuff as the season gets closer you will see a lot of aerials posted looking for input. Copy the aerial. Mark it up and then sit back and see what the guys that have been doing this a long time. Look at what they have marked and compare it to what you marked up. Read their explanations as to why a certain point or bowl or transition is grabbing their attention.
