I’m very cheap. Can talk myself out of buying most anything.
Something my wife and I have done that helps with that is budgeting and using Dave Ramsey’s EveryDollar app. We designate a certain amount of money to a “fun” account for both of us. Then if you don’t use your money that month you can roll it to the next and so forth. More often than not, I just add about 75% of my designated money per month to additional payment on debt, but it’s there if I want to use it.

I always research equipment upgrades of any kind.
Then I buy the best that I can afford. Better equipment means less problems while afield.
