NC Rut Dates

Unread postby Horizontal Hunter » Wed Jan 31, 2018 2:08 pm

I'm looking to get an idea of what the rut dates typically are in NC as my brother lives down there in the Raleigh Durham area.

Thanks,

Bob

I used to live in the piedmont just north of Charlotte. It was breeding phase around Thanksgiving give or take.
It is more drawn out rut than farther north due to the milder climate (and in my area,)buck to doe ratio.

Thanks for the reply Jew. I appreciate it. My brother has been thinking about taking up hunting and I have been thinking about making a trip.

Sounds like a fun trip.

There were good deer numbers where I hunted but it was challenging finding a mature buck.
But finding a mature buck takes a lot of work anywhere. :D

I live in Cumberland county/Fort Bragg area. It starts around the second week of November and runs through Thanksgiving. Like mentioned before it’s kind of a drawn out rut.

Thanks for all the responses. That really helps narrow down the timing. Now to see if he is really interested.

These dates seem to be accurate based off my experience. I hunt almost entirely in NC.
