Ran into this old article in an unrelated google search and thought it had some good reminders for people new to BEAST tactics going into the scouting season:

Re: Spring scouting basics...
Thank you great information. I am brand new to this stuff have been hunting for 30+ years and have done very well but feel hunting beast style will just open way more doors. I just received 3 of your dvds and can’t wait until I can watch them in piece kids home for Christmas break. Thank you Dan and everyone else I have been doing hours and hours of reading on this forum. Hopefully everyone had a great Christmas and have a great New Year and be safe.

Re: Spring scouting basics...
X2 on the preseason / post season scouting
The winter of 2015 was CRAZY I bet I put in 300-400 hrs of offseason scouting over the winter. We had NO SNOW most of the winter. It was a gift. I learned more that winter / spring that set me up for future years to come. 2016 The scouting put me on one of the biggest bucks I have ever chased in this state and put me on the buck I killed in 2017. 2018 will be year #3 chasing the bigger one. Other bucks I killed were killed from stands that I LEVELED in the winter to get stands in for different winds.
This winter so far, barely got in any December scouting before the snow started to come. Now it snows so often since Dec 15, I can barley get 3-5 days of movement on the snow before its all buried and its all brandnew.
Just got back from 2 days of scouting / hunting Massachusetts. Done a bunch of work their post rut working on stuff possible for seasons to come.

Re: Spring scouting basics...
Kind of made me chuckle...I can remember 13yrs ago, someone telling me when I pounding the woods in August "you really should not be doing all of that right now...your going to spook the deer" I kind of scoffed at the idea. At the time, made 0 sense to me. Since that time, I have changed a thing or 2

I’m somewhat jealous of the length of your all’s season. Hopefully a fast snow melt after all seasons end. Better?

Sounds good! I was hoping I wouldn't need 3+ months, but it is what it is.
