Re: From Mich: Thanks beasts
I've been trying beast tactics on SEMI public land this year too. Did a lot of scouting in the spring, found some good spots that I hunted, and went in blind at a few places based on aerials and anticipated deer movement/bedding, though my main priority was learning to hunt the wind better than I have been (shout out to a fellow HB member and Michigander who sent me some milkweed this year - you know who you are!).
My most recent public land hunt was last wednesday (day before thanksgiving), 1 week into our firearms season, and I still saw a deer on public land! While I haven't killed anything yet this year on public (I could have taken a doe and a small 4pt) I haven't gotten skunked a single sit, which I consider to be a resounding success as my expectations for public land were extremely low! A lot of guys make it sound like public land in Michigan is a complete waste of time. I couldn't disagree more!
Great job on the buck though! There is tons of great information here. Us Michigan guys have to take all the help we can get!

Great story, and congrats. Reminds me of a last day of gun season on a SE Michigan public land I had about 15 years ago. Only I missed the buck, then shot a doe a few minutes later.
My buddy who was sitting up in the hardwoods, was like what is going on down there. I was like oh, you didn't see any deer up here in the open woods on last day of gun season
