ridges leeward side

what does leeward side mean I have 2 ridges I can hnt 1runs east west other one north south leeward side means hntin the top or bottom off these ridges can someone please clarifiy 4 me any body else that don't quite follow it either thks 4 info

On a west wind, the Leeward side would be the east side of the ridge. On a north wind, the Leeward side is the south. Deer travel and bed on the Leeward side so they can smell what's above(on top) and can see what's below.
