My buck
So I inadvertently bumped a deer out of its bed on Saturday. It was wet and me and a friend was walking a field edge to go pull a camera and saw a massive trail with some good rubs down it. We were quietly whispering back and forth when we heard a deer jump up and run several yards then just casually walk off. We could see antlers through the brush. He was bedded within a couple of yards of the field edge and neither of us was prepared or expecting there to be a bedded deer there. This was around 11am or so. My friend said it was a burnt spot now but I said no way, because I had remembered all of the talk about bump and dump on here. I quickly told him about it and we left. I went home and grabbed my Lone Wolf and sticks and got back in. I picked a tree out and got up it. I was about 20 yards from the bed and trail then about 10 yards in the woods from the field edge. This was around 2:30pm. I had good visibility of the trail, bed, field and a couple of trails in the woods. I sat there with high expectations but as the minutes and then hours ticked by my excitement began to wane and I thought I was just wasting time. I got to the point around 5 that I was getting impatient and was starting to fiddle with my phone. Then out of nowhere a big buck walked out of the woods across from me and proceeded to walk straight towards where that trail and bed was. It was almost like he read the script. It was like you see them do on TV. The deer crossed the whole field and got to about 35-40 yards and turned broadside for a minute and I busted him. His tail tucked and he ran harder than I have ever heard a buck run and then the wonderful noise of him piling up. My biggest ever and am thrilled. I wouldn’t have even thought to do the setup without the knowledge learned here. In the past I would have written the spot off as ruined once the buck left. Thanks for the knowledge shared here by Dan and all.
