2017 midwest trip
We so begins another midwest trip. Landed yesterday...scouted great long piece ground terrain and cover wise. Just not tons of sign.
Hunting a bottom for couple hours this morning. Just had a big buck come through. ..just caught glimpses of him. He was big. Grabbed grunt call...got his attention...then see doe squirting out to the side. Can not compete with her.
We have moved some does around. Found doe bedding. Kicked some does out of there yesterday.
I am froze. 30 deg this morning.

Just see doe and lamb come through. Think I spooked when I was packing up. Good to see.

Re: 2017 midwest trip
Wish I had spent more time peddling my bike this summer. Cutting across cut soybean fields thst are not flat ....kind of like riding in sand. Bikes have worked out quite well.
Setup tonight in same area I was this morning moved to different tree with better cover. Hunting a bottom not far from the edge of a doe bed. Saw doe and lamb head back in there this morning.
Goal is really to get in a couple hunts a day and midday spent scouting. We are still looking at new pieces everyday. The piece we looked at today...bunch of cow pasture with wooded draws. You could see deer had been feEdina on the oaks.
My buddy is sitting edge of a dry marsh. Bumped few deer out of it yesterday, found beds. Guessing does bed it as well.

Re: 2017 midwest trip
Small buck bwen staring down my decoy forever. Snort blow turned around and came back.
Don't usually drag those things into places with cover but you can,see for a ways in this bottom. Works well when calling. Sight to behold watching me ride bike with that thing bungie corded to my back.

Re: 2017 midwest trip
The sound of footsteps in the leaves just never gets old. Finished the night off with one more small buck that came in. Hard to tell where the rut is at right now where we are hunting. On brandnew ground, sometimes you won't find that out till the trip is over. That big buck -- pretty sure was breeding that doe. There was not a bunch of chase. The smaller bucks, they were out moping around but no one was pestering does.
In the morning I will be on the NE corner of the property hunting near doe bedding on the other end on a SSW wind. We have the does...not tons like I have seen in the past but plenty to keep me interested.
Bunch more property to look at ...every day choose another property to scout, if it looks interesting, we will come and look at it again.

What has been the story on the Nebraska EHD situation? I know they said it was bad out there a few years back.
