Rut activity affected by warm temps
I was planning on this weekend and next week being my primetime for hunting, however the weather here in SE PA looks like it sucks... with some higher than normal temps and rain. Some days it it up into the 70s and looks to have some rain Mon-Thurs.
Have you guys seen rut activity decrease due to hot weather or rain?

Rain doesn’t affect much unless it’s very heavy. Even then right after it stops can be really good. With really warm temps they still move just concentrated more early morning and the last hour before dark when the temps are the coolest. Mid-day action really slows up. Last year I killed my buck on Nov 3 when it was brutal hot in the mid-70’s for a high. Still saw chasing at noon. That temp was 30 degrees above average. Killed mine just before dark.

I'm dealing with the same warm spell. High is like 76 for today.
Just had a decent 8 point chase a doe right by my stand at 1pm. I didn't think they would be moving but I guess temp doesn't matter if they find a doe. With the heat and rain it's less then ideal conditions.

I second all of these statements. Rut still goes on it can just be slower mid day.

So, with warmer temps and movement being concentrated to early AM and late afternoon, would you not to all day sits?

Re: Rut activity affected by warm temps
Bucks don't care if there's a hot doe how warm it is, they'll be on her. They may decrease activity searching for a doe but they still move, just not as much. I remember seeing a couple young bucks chasing does a few years ago. I was hot, 60's and that's warm for WI, and one of them was running them so hard he could barely walk. Looked like he was going to pass out with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. I could hear him panting from 50 yards away.
Dogs have many friends because they wag their tails, not their tongues.

If it’s the rut I’m doing all day sits regardless. If there is a hot doe around things get crazy no matter what the weather is. We wait all year for these few weeks. Make every second count. Lot’s of big bucks killed last year in the heat with some in the middle of the day.

I will be doing all day sits even in the heat the next two days. You never know what could happen. It's weird being out covered in deet and have the thermacell running in November.

Re: Rut activity affected by warm temps
Sometimes when its warmer than average and things have been slow for a few days it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that they're only moving early and late and that all day sits are a waste of time. But I agree with what's been said, the rut still happens at about the same time every year and you never know, all it takes is one hot doe.
First buck I killed with my bow was a 3.5 year old 8 point that I shot at 11 o'clock on a day that had to be at least 70 degrees. 10th buck I saw that morning. Some could have been repeats, it was so thick I couldn't tell, but man talk about a fun hunt!
One thing to try mite be hunting a secluded water source.

I've seen people shoot nice bucks in the 70's at nigh noon, it is November there is no excuse to not be the woods any chance you get right now.

Checked forecast and there's 31 degree drop tonight from 72 to 41 tomorrow AM. Better believe I'm gonna be in the stand tomorrow morning.

We will be in low 80's till Tuesday. But, still going.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: Rut activity affected by warm temps
Tomorrow morning supposed to be in the low 50s here after having a high of 78 today. Should hopefully be a good morning, have to wear orange tho it's our youth hunt. Heat didn't seem to effect as much from what I have been seeing, had a big body mature 6 point moving at close to 12pm today.
