Light and variable
I was looking at forecast for start of November, I know there's time for change but so far all my hunting dates are dominated by light and variable winds. Any strategy for handling these winds? Do thermals still work. Do deer still work tunnel location if there is no steady wind? Seems like I ran into same issue last fall but I was lucky to tag out day 1.

Re: Light and variable
I think tunnel or no tunnel, bucks generally cruise closer to the tops and the upper 1/3 elevation line. Light and variable wind is a good time to hunt up high with rising thermals above these travel corridors.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

Re: Light and variable
Most of my early season the winds have been like that. Any time when you have low winds you can expect them to vary. It makes picking access and tree selection difficult. One thing you can count on are thermals tho. Can't really help with using wind tunnels or not, where I hunt it's completely flat.

Re: Light and variable
Ironically this year here in upstate NY has had strong and variable. Never had seen it before and now it’s once a week....5-30mph and an occasional up gust from the opposite direction on platter flat ground. That sucks.

That’s why we have milkweed. It’s helped me a ton in understanding thermals and where exactly my scent was going on a certain wind in spots I hunt.

Re: Light and variable
I always think the "variable" is the hardest to hunt. I would take a steady light wind with no variable anytime !
