Foggy thoughts
As fall finally begins to descend on us with cooler temperatures we are beginning to experience more foggy situations in marsh/swamp areas and anywhere there is water. This happens this time of year primarily bc the water temps are still warmer than the air temps. Question: any mature buck activity change in these conditions? Any hunting tips? Any anecdotal info on hunting the fog? Thanks!

Re: Foggy thoughts
First buck I ever shot was in the dense fog. I had lots of doe pee out and on my boots. I think with all the fog and moisture in the air, the scent of the doe pee was intensified and actually carried to him and he came in to investigate. That was actually the first time I went hunting and had no idea what I was doing. I haven't had any luck in the fog since. And the other morning I sat in a spot where fog rolled in between 8-9:30. I saw deer before 8 and after 9:30 steadily, but not any during the fog. Not saying the fog caused them not to move, could have just been coincidence, but it did make me think. I prefer not to have fog most places in the morning, just because most of my morning spots are based off of rising thermals, and fog first thing in the morning can interfere with rising thermals for a bit. But if it is the rut, and it is a good spot, I am not going to let fog stop me from hunting.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

Re: Foggy thoughts
I enjoy hunting mornings when it's foggy just the view of the fog moving through the tree line on a cold morning is awesome. Have seen mature bucks moving as the fog clears but never seen one in thick fog.
There was one morning I nearly crapped my self walking in. I was hunting a small piece of private I have access and was crossing an open field in pitch black and thick fog. I get about half way through the field and out of the corner of my eye I see movement. I get a glimpse of something that looked like a big body albino deer then it disappears in the fog. I take a couple more steps and see it again. Quickly I turn towards it and turn on my light... I see two eyes staring at me. Im thicking this is the biggest deer i have ever seen. I take a step forward and can now see im about 5 yards away from this big all white donkey... I don't know who was more scared me or him. Turns out the farmer moved the donkey from near his house to a little pen out in this field a few days before.

Great title!
I used to think there was no way deer or big bucks would move in it but I was way wrong! This time of year id be close to does and be ready. Those foggy mornings make for quiet travel (after a rain) and they can be right on you.

Re: Foggy thoughts
I've had bucks appear out of the fog within 10 yards of my stand on some of those quiet, foggy mornings. They were all great encounters and I remember them vividly, but I never even drew on one of them.

I love hunting foggy mornings. Something about it always keeps me on edge. Just waiting to all of a sudden see that big buck just standing there!
