First, can't thank everyone enough for all the knowledge! I just killed my first buck using beast tactics last week. Found his bed in Spring and closed the deal last Monday.
Here in Kentucky, we can get a bonus buck when hunting on Fort Knox. We have a big drop in temps coming Monday. The area I scouted isn't open that day, so I am limited to cyber scouting. I have settled on this area, but would really appreciate any input you may have. I am expecting oaks on ridges from reading local forums. The wind will be out of the North @ 10mph, clear day, and rising high barometric pressure. I can be out there by 3:00 PM with my LW on my back. I have put red dots by where I anticipate buck beds may be located, however, I would really like your opinions/suggestions/questions.

Re: First Public Land Hunt Newbie Beast
Congrats on your recent buck! Thats great!
Im curious if all the roads seen can be used to access or if everyone is confined to parking lots? Also, what is going on to the west of the pic? I assume the main area w roads is off limits but what are the openings on the tops of the ridges?

There is access to the west. The ridge there west of the creek is a dramatic drop off to the valley floor. They do not put more than one or two hunter in the area assigned and Mondays are very lightly hunted. I likely will have it to myself. My understanding is that I can park anywhere that is safe on the side of the road.
There isn't a road on the bottom yellow line, it is only the area boundary there.

That steep point south of heard park with the 613 near it looks good to me. Has a walking trail above it but I find a lot of beds near walking trails like that where they bed where they can either smell or see the trail. Of course that all depends how heavily it gets used. Access from the north along the creek and cut up onto that ridge just before your north wind gets to the point.

With the wind being put off the north and if map orientation is to the top the red dots I placed on the south facing slopes and points is where I would concentrate my efforts.
I would hunt the point to the west and set my stand up near the green dot to catch them working off the point down into he creek bottom. From there I feel like the wind is in both the deer and the hunters favor. Kinda like a just off wind.
