Forecast Update (10/9/17) - Hunt The Front

Unread postby weatherdude » Tue Oct 10, 2017 10:49 am

A new forecast discussion has been posted to the website. Some decent cold fronts on the way with what looks like more to come. Some rain for parts of the midwest and eastern US as well. Good luck this week guys.

Thanks for the explanation of events surround high and low pressure systems. Over the last few years since I began hunting I started wondering about how and why weather happens. Your blog has my attention.

This may be an obvious question for some, but how do low pressure systems draw, or bring in air? I love your blog. Keep it up.

In nature all things move from high to low, whether it be temperature, pressure, energy, etc. In the case of low/high pressure systems you can think about it this way:

You have two containers, one with high pressure gas and another with lower pressure gas. The high pressure container contains a lot of particles per unit volume (that is, it's relatively "full"), and the lower pressure gas contains few particles per unit volume (it's relatively "empty"). When the two containers are put side to side and gas is allowed to flow, the "full," high pressure container will lose particles to the "empty," low pressure one, causing particles to move from high to low pressure again.

Obviously you are not dealing with containers in the atmosphere but this is essentially how low pressure systems "draw" air in. Air is being pushed from the high pressure air to the lower pressure air. This "pushing" is known as the "pressure gradient force." Hopefully that answers your question!
