As I sit here in the tree, thinking about the season. It's always interesting to watch the roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes your the guy who has been successful, sometimes your not.
Everyone starts to get a little cranky. I always try to remember, to check my attitude whatever side I am on. Attitude is a choice. Even you feel like "what he killed another buck??" You can still choose to celebrate with the person...it gets real ugly when someone loses it because it's not going well for them.
2014 my best friend killed great old buck we had chased for 2 or 3 seasons. He killed it. Another buddy ...you could tell, yeah it was awkward. That same season my best friend killed again on another beauty. Went in hung camera, buck shows he killed it. I had only seen one decent buck all season in maine. He put I'm a fraction of the time. This is not an equal opportunity sport.
Guess all I am saying is remember today is not your day but tomorrow could be.

Boy do i need this!! Im never jealous of others success, ever, but the season can get me down. Im no great hunter with big expectations, but im fairly knowledgeable and think i should at least see deer. When thats not the case my attitude stinks. I need to learn to enjoy it for what it is

Re: The eb and flow of deer season
That's the thing though. I had a good year last year in maine and never put a tag on a deer. Killed a good one traveling...but not here.
I put a ton of work in. I get a pile of good bucks on camera...more than most around here. Still does not mean I am going to put my tag on one. I really strive to be as excited and realize how blessed I am no matter what.
I have had a fair amount of success over the last 8 to 10yrs or so. I don't think of myself as anything special. But even from some friends...no one has it quite as good as I do. Your deer was shot on the midwest or you have so much more time to hunt than I do. Sometimes success brings out the ugly in people.
I just shrug my shoulders and keep doing what I love.
