Strapping bow to your stand

Unread postby Net Guy » Wed Sep 27, 2017 6:24 am

Apologize if there already is a topic on this, couldn't find it through searching. I have an XOP stand and sticks and was wondering if anyone straps their bow to their stand while walking in and out of the woods? If so, what's the best method, so it doesn't get damaged? Just looking for a way to free up both hands when walking through really nasty swamps. Gets tough navigating through really nasty brush with only one available hand. Just curious. Thanks!

I always just carry my bow. Go through thick nasty stuff all the time and it has never really been an issue for me. Depending on how your sticks sit on your stand you could always just bungee it or use some lashing straps. Stick talons would make it much easy to attach it with since your sticks are stacked in one spot.

Thick nasty stuff is where the big bucks hang out. I would never be caught in that stuff during daylight with my bow on my back. Had to many close encounters over the years to risk a lost opportunity.

Good point. Do you still carry it at night?

Yes just because my bow is worth a lot to me and I don't want to damage it without knowing it. Feel much better with it in my hands. Same with my gun at night. Always carry it in my hands, just a habit.

A good way to lose your bow. Man up and carry it!

Always like to have it in my hands. The way I snag branches on my stand my bow would get all beat to heck. Never have issues carrying it in my hand and have much better control over it.

Carry it, I've killed a couple while walking to the stand. Another good piece of advice to share, if the season is in, keep your bow with you anytime your are out. I killed one a couple years ago on a quick treestand retrieval mission behind my house. Like others have said, you just never know.

Another vote for holding it your hand. I have had a couple of shots at deer on the walk in or out.

I also carry it in my hand with the quiver attached.
