Elimination of WI Deer & Turkey Tagging Requirements
Hi Everyone
Just saw this on JSOnline. Looks like they changed/eliminated the tagging requirements for deer and turkey in the new state budget, effective immediately.
Here is the article. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/ou ... 688543001/

Gotta like that!
One less thing to forget or lose.
Poachers are going to violate no matter what.

I thought the new 2017 validation process for tagging a deer was seriously dumb! The DNR is right IMO. This does make it easier for scum bags to abuse the system. Not sure why legislation is not involving the DNR?? Are they still taking advice from angry insurance companies and create mass hysteria about CWD?

Still hoping they bring back the indestructible green tags

I guess that makes things a little easier for me, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about the potential for abuse.

A lot of states have electronic check ins now but to not have to tag them at all seems a little over the top.

Curious to see how the harvest numbers stack up this year compared to others.

If no kill tags are needed can we simply carry our drivers license of conservation card and leave the paper copies at home?

Legislators eliminated park rangers too. Wardens now have the responsibility to look after parks. I'm neither a republican or democrat, but this is what we get when we vote for a republican like walker. Cut services. Public land is and has been on the list as well. Don't be surprised if a lot of the fed and state land disappears soon. I'm not saying it's good or bad but the politicians are doing what they said they'd do....making living in Wisconsin more affordable

Walker did some other questionable stuff this week too. Not turning this into a political thread since I know some guys here really like walker.
Enjoy the good while you can

Read it again, just a conservation card or drivers license will suffice. Not sure I'm for the change but not having to carry the paper copies is nice.

"Due to provisions inserted into the 2017-'19 state budget, hunters in Wisconsin are no longer required to place a carcass tag on deer or turkeys they kill."
I don't understand how a rule changd like this just gets inserted in the state budget. Seems like it has nothing to do with a budget. Just seems wierd in general.

Wish they would take care of this stuff well before the season instead of after the regs are printed. Nothing like confusing people. When in doubt just put a tag on it.
As far as this resulting in more poaching I'm not worried about it. Poachers will be poachers no matter what the rules say. Honest people will always do the right thing.

Great, I guess I just wasted part of my day today waterproofing my paper tags
