Sunday hunting in Virginia
If you are interested in voicing your opinion to open up Sunday hunting, please respond.
There are currently 2 bills now that have been proposed to allow Sunday hunting.
SB 850
and
SB 2442
SB 2443 is also very good for us.
Here is a link to the second bill mentioned.

Some of you guys dont know how good yall got it. NC just passed this last year. However its only open for bow (Yay for me), but its only on private land, NO PUBLIC, and gun season comes in two weeks earlier (first week of OCT in most of the state) and that runs until....well the end of the season
Best of luck getting it passed! More time in the woods is a good thing!

No Sunday hunting in Massachusetts either, total BS...

Re: Sunday hunting in Virginia
What is the reason for not allowing hunting on Sunday?

Its a sabbath for the land and wildlife (day of rest) for the most part down south. The problem is no one really has time to hunt Mon-Friday so all hunting takes place on Sat. Its seems more about tradition now that common sense. I can respect and see its value coming from a Christain background but disagree w/ it. Also down here there is 3 churches on every corner and some it b/w (Bible Belt) and hearing gun shots going off on a "relaxing" Sunday afternoon just wont cut it for folks down here. Down south Deer Season = Gun Season minus two weeks. I think it will change eventally like most things do. Last year was the first time we could hunt Sundays w/ a bow (private land only). Heck as a kid I remember all the stores were closed on Sundays. Im only 25.

Re: Sunday hunting in Virginia
I cannot tell you how many days/hours in the woods no Sunday hunting has cost me over the years. The "rule" is pathetic. Thanks for the links. If I am not able to hunt on Sundays this year, my season is going to be extremely difficult due to a potentially new work schedule.

The bill was crushed 15-2 in favor of continuing the No Sunday Hunting. PATHETIC.

Re: Sunday hunting in Virginia
hate to hear about this! i thought it would have been closer. Besides NC how close are you to Sunday hunting states? Not that your not welcome in NC just thinking of a place that hold more quality deer and that you could hunt game lands on Sunday.

Re: Sunday hunting in Virginia
I live an hour south of both Maryland and West Virginia. Both of those states also have a ban on Sunday Hunting. PATHETIC. My work schedule is more than likely going to be Monday-Friday this upcoming deer season for the first time in 6 years. That means my hunting time is going to be severely lacking due to the fact that I cannot hunt on Sunday. SUCK IT VA old school lawmen who voted against opening up Sunday hunting.

Re: Sunday hunting in Virginia
Dont get too down and out. NC passed it then renigged b/c 10 people wrote our congressmen. But the next year it got passed and last year for the first time we could bowhunt on private land on Sundays. Keep the faith, fight the fight. I know you feel defeated now but hopefully it will go up for a re-vote next year. If I can get a lock on some land close to the NC/VA border you'd be more than welcome to come down and hunt it on sundays. Ill keep in touch w/ you as the year progesses.
